WPM Test

How to measure reading speed in WPM

WPM means words per minute. It is useful only when paired with comprehension, because fast skimming can produce a high number but weak understanding.

The simple formula

Count the words in a passage, measure the reading time in minutes, and divide words by minutes. A 600-word passage finished in two minutes equals 300 WPM.

Add comprehension questions

A proper reading speed test should ask questions after the passage. If the reader scores poorly, the WPM result should be treated as too fast for that material. The goal is usable speed, not empty speed.

Use similar passages over time

Progress is easier to track when the test difficulty is consistent. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced passages give a more honest picture than random text from unrelated subjects.

How Manovex uses WPM

Manovex includes controlled WPM settings inside the reader and a speed test with comprehension questions. The result helps users choose a realistic starting speed before pushing higher.
